Dainty. Floaty. Pastel. Love.

So excited for spring. Living in Indiana starts to get to you after about 6 months of sub-freezing temperatures. After living in Texas for all of my young life I'm definitely not used to this yet. However, the snow has melted and the permacloud is no longer... thank God! It's so funny here how people begin taking out their shorts and t-shirts once it hits about 55 degrees. I actually had a friend who was wearing flip flops one day earlier this year when it reached 46 and argued, "It's so warm! It's beautiful outside!"... Yes, it was warm-ER than any temperature we had seen for a while but I still thought she was crazy for not wearing close-toed shoes. Sooo... I'm still wearing fall gear. Can't justify wearing sundresses and the like until it at least hits 70. Regardless, there's hope in sight.
Given this change of the seasons, I'm so ready to do some spring shopping! Well, I'm ready to do shopping regardless of what time of the year it is but that's beside the point. I want (actually NEED) this outfit. Soooo pretty. Dainty, floaty, pastel :) Love.

Time

Love is so incredibly strange. The way someone can completely have your heart and affect your emotions so much just blows my mind. I think I've only loved once. It's been almost a year since we've spoken but I still think about him.
What really gets me is how conditional love is... my love anyway. I knew that the relationship was bad for me and I knew things would never get better. For some reason, though, I held on tight. For this reason, love can be dangerous. He could have said almost anything to me and I still would have loved him. When I was younger I would hear about these cases of domestic violence on the news and in my little head I would think, "Well duh, she should just leave him." I see now that it's not that easy. That scares me.
But in a way I can't wait to fall in love again. If someone could love me the way I love, it would be absolutely incredible. The way I held on to every word he said, would smile so big inside just reading one of his texts, and the way my heart jumped at the sight at him is an inexplicable feeling... and if that was reciprocated it would be amazing.
I guess it all just takes time. Time to heal and time to start anew. I look forward to everything to come.

Monsters

So I decided just tonight that I wanted to start this blog. I've never been one for blogging (well except for the Xanga days... remember those?) but I have been following a few fashion/style blogs for a while and I'm hooked.

Tonight I was continuing with this paper for my Monsters in Literature class. Sounds like a joke... kinda is. But my task was to compare monsters in medieval texts with the modern-day monsters. Of course, I chose Disney monsters. I compared Shrek and Beauty and the Beast with Grendel from Beowulf and some other random literature like the Wife of Bath's tale! It was interesting to realize the theme that ugliness is the ultimate curse and that once you're beautiful life is good. People wonder why the beauty industry is so hot and why plastic surgery is running rampant but we've been taught these messages since we were tots. These messages have been around since the medieval times... probably before. Today, so many campaigns are out there stressing that you don't have to look like a Victoria's Secret model (e.g. Dove's new "Real Beauty" campaign) but I think it's going to take a while to change everyone's way of thinking.
Don't get me wrong... I loveeeee fashion and getting dolled up. I'm that girl that wears heels to class every day and is constantly asked "Why are you so dressed up?" No reason... I just love feeling like I look my best. :) I just wish that looking good was an option- not a mandate.
